Minnesota Business Magazine has published an article, 'Inside Minnesota's Booming Bike Economy', in their August 2010 edition reviewing the impact of cycling businesses to Minnesota's economy.

Their localized review does a fine job of accounting for the various components of the $315 million/year cycling manufacturing and sales industry, which is on par with Minnesota's forestry, fishing and related activities.

The article focuses on the Twin Cities, which is only only 90-miles away and will be a key source of day trippers and weekend vacationers to the Camp Ripley/Veterans Trail.

The Twin Cities are gradually but surely becoming a central hub in the national bike economy.

Consider this: We’re home to the biggest bicycle parts supplier in North America and, presumably, the world; the largest bike tool manufacturer; two of the nation’s leading bike retailers; the largest distributor of road biking goods and apparel; one of the premier triathlon shops in the country; and the list of superlatives could go on.

The Twin Cities metropolitan area, 16th largest in the U.S., supports two of the country’s biggest bike retailers. It’s yet another sign of the strength of our cycling culture, and the emergence of bicycling as an important sector in our local economy.

If the original article's source location changes, a local pdf PDF version (141.50 Kb) has been made available.
